ff: a day in the life of

I had no idea what this week's Friday Fiasco was until Alex texted me to join in: take a picture every hour that you are awake today (that was yesterday). I had already been up for two hours, so I guess we'll just skip two morning pics.

Disclaimer: most of these pics are not exactly on the hour. In fact, a few of them are almost into the next hour.

9:00am

I was driving to Boonie's. I drove his car home the night before because he fell asleep at 6:30pm and he didn't want to get up. When I got to his house we made a quick breakfast, he dropped me off at school at 10:00 and then he drove to school.

10:00am

I was in my biology class. I don't like taking pictures in class because the people behind me would probably think I'm being a creep. This is why you see a picture of my feet and backpack as opposed to my prof. and classmates. The prof. lectured on the respiratory system. The body is amazing by the way.

11:00am

After bio I rushed to the gym, ran a few laps, did a few burpees, crunches, and lunges, then ran a couple more laps. I'm trying to train for the Spartan Race in August and I get a WOD (workout of the day) email every day. I try to do most of the things they say to do which are sometimes not the most convenient or easiest things to do, but it's fun to try. This is a pic of the track upstairs.

12:00pm

After my workout, I rushed to my anthropology class. My prof lectured on early bipeds and we learned about neanderthals and things and the like and such. I caught a pic as I was leaving.

1:00pm

Off to my linguistics class. There was a presentation that day by a few classmates. We were supposed to guess whether a boy or a girl wrote the Facebook statuses we saw written on the board. We then discussed language and gender. It was a good presentation.

2:00pm

After my ling class, I went straight to my last class of the day which just so happens to be another anthropology class. We discussed what happened to the Aboriginal people and their religion in the States. I left that class hating Europeans. I talked to Burns about it after and we concluded that we (humans in general) are still learning how to be good and "humane", but it sure is taking forever!

3:00pm

This is me on my way home via the bus. Nothing too exciting happened here.

4:00pm

This is the Kobster waiting for Boonie to get to our house to take us away to his house. I just thought this pic was hilarious.

5:00pm

This is a pic of part of the assignment I worked on yesterday. It was due at midnight and it was for my linguistics class. I had to write down all of my face-to-face interactions I had for a week but I extended mine to two weeks. I didn't include text messages, but I included phone conversations. Any interaction that would affect the way I speak. The first couple days I realized how little I talk to people face-to-face. It was a little concerning actually haha. I should have taken a pic of the finished product. It shows my social network with lines criss-crossing everywhere because I know some people who know others in the network.

6:00pm

I forgot to take a picture, but I was definitely still working on my assignment.

7:00pm

Denise made chili for supper and Burns and I couldn't wait to eat it!!!

8:00pm

This is Burns being really bored because I hadn't finished my assignment yet. I think he was playing Counterstrike. He's looking at Kobe who is just barely out of the pic.

9:00pm

Finally finished my assignment! I love the look Kobe is giving Burns haha!

10:00pm

What to do on a Friday night at 10? Go to McDonald's for McFlurrys of course!

11:00pm

What to do on a Friday night at 11? Play the piano of course! Right after this Burns and I learned a little bit of a song from Handel's Messiah. We want to sing it for a choir spiritual thought.

12:00am

When I looked at the clock, I didn't even know how this happened. It was almost 1:00am??? What the? So I went home.

1:00am

Getting ready for bed.

2:00am

I finally went to sleep. This is right before I turned my lights out. What was I still doing up you ask? Putting filters on all of these pics for today. I'm so HC. This is a pic of my pj's.

This was a pretty typical Friday for me...except the working on an assignment for four hours part. I hope you enjoyed your window into my life :D

10@almost 10am

1. I just got out of an Art History exam at 8:45am. It didn't go so well.

2. Looks like I know where I'm going to live for the summer! I'll be staying right where I am now :D soo relieved!

3. Kobe and I have been going on long walks to the dog park and wow has the weather been so great or what!? Hence why I'm going on long walks.... But really though, I have had to take my jacket off twice now. I love it!

4. I'm finding myself not caring as much about my grades recently. I think I'm done with school for the year. That doesn't mean I don't want to go to grad school! Just done with..this...school...

5. I haven't seen Burns since Sunday. That may or may not be a good thing. Just kidding it sucks.

6. I haven't been grocery shopping in about 3 weeks and now I have been scavenging through all the dry foods I haven't eaten for about a year or two left on my shelves because I don't like them haha. And, yes, I am aware that that was a run-on-sentence.

For example: I have had 3 cans of tuna sitting on my shelf for about a year (I just realized now that I should have checked the expiry date on that before I ate it!). I'm not particularly fond of tuna, but I refused (maybe I was just a little lazy?) to walk a block to Bownesian and buy anything else. The point is, I now only have 2 cans of tuna.

Another example: I have had Cream of Wheat sitting on my shelf for about 2 years. Don't get me wrong, I like this stuff, but I would just prefer other breakfast foods. I have made it for breakfast for the past two days.

I hope this doesn't sound like I'm complaining. I just wanted to bring up images of you're unwanted shelf-sitters. I also have Corn Flakes (which I finally used most of for the Crispy Chicken Thighs I made for Valentine's Dinner), Stove-top Stuffing, and fake Mashed Potatoes.

Call me a hoarder, but these shelf-sitters do come in handy sometimes!

7. I still haven't seen The Hunger Games. I think Burns wants to see it more than I do. I'm just afraid of disappointment I suppose. With low expectations it's bound to be good right? .......Right?

8. Confession: I like sour cream. Like, like like it. If no one thought it was weird, I would dip my spoon in the container and eat sour cream as a treat. Don't worry, I already confessed this to Burns. It's not like I go buy sour cream just to eat it as a treat. I only buy it for stuff like tacos or perogies. And I only eat it when I lick it off the spoon after everyone is done with it. I probably don't eat it as a treat because I think this was a recent revelation, and I know people would think I was weird. Plus also I don't want to get fat off of it. And I don't want to be on the show "My Strange Addiction". Hi, my name is Paige, and I'm addicted to Sour Cream.

9. I have a wart on my hand that needs to be exiled. Forever.

10. I had a dream last night that I hiked the Juan de Fuca with Malissa. Actually, we hadn't even started hiking yet. We were about to embark on our journey and we were staying in a cabin the night before we started.

Man, I really want to hike it again!

PS I added colour because I didn't add pictures. Enjoy your little dose of rainbow today!

friday fiasco - work history

This FF seemed easy enough to join in on. Basically I just need to tell you where I have worked throughout my life.

Besides working as a slave around my house as a child, I guess I have had more jobs than I thought I have. Starting as a pre-teen, I babysat for a few families in my ward.

This is how I pictured babysitting to be every time:

This is how it actually was every time:

I was so young and I didn't know how to handle some situations all that well. Not to mention watching kids is exhausting. I don't know how stay-at-home mom's do it! Buuuuut don't get me wrong. I love babysitting Nitty cause she is soo good all the time haha. And I still don't know how to properly change a diaper *insert shamed look here*.

In Junior High I moved on to bigger and better (?) things. I started cleaning at Raymond Business Services for these guys:

I think that picture is a bit of a misconception. That picture is what accountants do only during tax season. The rest of the year it's more like this:

Anyways, I would come in after school and clean for about a half an hour. Probably 15 minutes every day consisted of this:

I don't even know how many trees I helped kill. Probably a whole forest. I swear I shredded more paper than even this:

During my working days at RBS, the company went through a name change to:

Let me tell you, it took me a long time to be able to pronounce Vucurevich [voo-KER-a-VICH]. This skill was handy in my final year working there but I'll tell you about that later.

In grade eleven I decided that I wanted, nay, neeeded to get out of Raymond for the summer. I actually applied to work for the Raymond Museum and I would have gotten the job, but I wanted more moola and an independent life. I lived with Alex and all her glorious roommates for a bit in Calgary then moved to Jessica's house for the rest of the summer. I worked for Amber's Quality House Cleaning. Wow those days were filled with disgusting things that made for awesome stories. Just think poo, hair, and pot.

I moved back home for my last year of High School and I asked for my cleaning job at Card Vucurevich & Associates back. Apparently my boss didn't think I was coming back so he gave the job to his daughter. He then offered me a desk job, so I took it. That is where my skill at saying "Vucurevich" came in handy because I had to answer the phone saying, "Card Vucurevich and Associates, Paige speaking." A lot of older people didn't realize that the name had changed and they got confused a lot.

This helped me to realize how much I despise desk jobs. I had to file, answer phones, file some more, and put up with one particular accountant who didn't want to work so he just came and talked to me. I actually worked with my mom a lot because she got a job as a receptionist there. I painted the bathrooms and I even  took down every Styrofoam ceiling tile and painted them. If they were damaged I had to replace them. Here is what I mean by ceiling tiles:

Let's not even get into the box system! Entering hundreds of client info into a computer = extremely time consuming and sometimes extremely frustrating.

After I graduated I moved back to Calgary and I worked for Amber's Quality House Cleaning again. Oh the joys. After my first year of university I went back. After my second year I was unemployed for two months and then went back. After my third year I got my first real (I say real because I was working for someone I didn't know and I actually had to apply for it) job at none other than my favorite greenhouse:

I loved working here because I worked with girls my age and we got to talk pretty much all day when the store was slow. I was a cashier. After I was laid off I went back to none other than...Amber's Quality House Cleaning!!! Such a surprise I know! My last year at UofC I have worked for them quite a lot which is great because I love extra monies.

In August Alex landed me another cleaning job. I cleaned a gymnastics center early in the morning for a week. Then my employer asked if I wanted to clean her sister's house once every three weeks and I accepted.

I am going back to Sunnyside this summer and if I'm not accepted to UofA for September, I will find a job as an SLPA (Speech-Language Pathologist Assistant) for a year and apply for grad school again the next year. Maybe I'll get a part time job this summer, too, but we shall see!

I guess this wasn't as boring as I thought it would be. The pictures sure helped.

march

 I suppose it's time for a 10@ update. Right now it's 7:37pm.

1. I got a job at Sunnyside Greenhouse again starting in May. Yay! Hopefully I'll be able to work at Bed, Bath, and Beyond part-time as well.

2. I have to move at the end of April. Not yay. I will sure miss my little apartment.

3. I ran with Lita today at Nose Hill Park. Those hills are death. I wish I lived closer to it so I could run there every day.

4. I am up to 13 man push ups in a row! In 4 sets I can do 37.

5. Last week we got dumped on by a butt load of snow so Burns and I built a quincy. We weren't sure if it would work because the snow was so powdery, but Burns shoveled away anyways and I dug out the interior and it worked marvelously!

We made Kobe go in the cave. It's kind of a creepy picture. There was enough room for both Burns and me inside.

6. Burns cleaned out his car in honor of our trip down to Raymond. He also cleaned all the mud and salt off the outside. Then he put a sticker he got from his brother on his car. Hopefully this will discourage people from flipping us off when they find out we aren't cops on the highway.

7. Burns and I went down to Raymond for the weekend for the Moonlight Run! I ran in the 10k this year and my time was 1:01:58. It was so fun! Probably because I actually trained for it this year haha. It was sooo nice running in the dark with my music playing. It was the best when I was relatively alone and the weather was absolutely perfect! I was able to run up the whole hill this year! I'm so proud of myself! Especially because I had never ran 10k in my whole life before I ran the race. It was a waaaaaay better experience than last year.

8. Right after the race Parents, Brad, Marshie, Carol, Burns, and I all went to Osho for dinner. So good.

9. I can't wait to graduate!!!!

10. Not knowing whether I'm going to Edmonton or staying here for the next year is highly stressful. Dislike.

FPADC 19-29

Day 19: something you hate to do

I hate leaving Burns for the night...or him leaving me for the night. It has gotten a little annoying after 3 years of this. I know what you're thinking so no need to comment haha.

Day 20: handwriting

I really like this song and I couldn't really think of anything else to do for handwriting. When I went to write my GRE I had to hand write out a waiver (like in cursive) and it was the first time in a long time I had done that so it took me forever. The guy next to me complemented my style haha.

Day 21: a fave photo of you

Having a sister as a photographer is so great sometimes. Okay a lot of the time. Okay it's just awesome. There are many pictures I love of myself because of that woman. This is just one of the many.

Day 22: where you work

Sometimes I clean houses.

Day 23: your shoes

I got these on sale at Payless. They were originally around $60 but I got them for like $24 or something. They are probs my fave shoes. Like totes.

Day 24: inside your bathroom cabinet

Because I live with roomies, my bathroom cabinet is actually a drawer. Let's see what we got in there. Some toothpaste, a couple of toothbrushes, a mirror, some band-aids, floss, waxing strips, razor replacement blades, and a thing that scrapes away my gross callouses on my heels.

Day 25: green

I went to Lloyd's Roller Rink with Marshie, Burns, and Lita last week. It was super fun and I'm so jealous of those peeps who are sooooo good at it!

Day 26: night

I don't even remember exactly when this was taken. That's burns back there. It was super foggy out and we were trying to scare each other by pretending we had the rage virus. We're so neat.

Day 27: something you ate

I used to think that avocados were kind of blah. I gave them another chance this year and I love them now! Served best sliced like this with sea salt and a lot of pepper. Mmmmmmm.

Day 28: money

I think I have a little more than $100 in coins. I need to take this to the bank some time..... I guess the only reason I haven't yet is because I'm going to feel really sorry for whoever has to count all this.

Day 29: something you're listening to

I wish on this leap day the photo challenge was a little more epic. Or maybe I should have listened to something a little more epic on the extra day we had. Oh well. This one is a gooder. I also really like "Not Your Fault" by Awolnation.

PS. Alex, I watched Fresh. I really like how they focused more on the awesomeness of organic farms than on the inhumanity of mass production like other documentaries I've seen. It made me really want to start my own little organic farm haha.
