FPADC 15-18

 Day 15: Phone

As you can see by the time on Marshall's phone, it was 10:52 when I took this picture. I was feeling rushed so I just took these two phones and took a quick pic. After I posted this on Instagram, however, I thought of something better to do. That's okay though. This works.

Day 16: Something New

This was a 21 minute old post on my Facebook wall when I took this pic. That was pretty new. But, again, I felt rushed because I couldn't think of anything else to take a picture of that day. Let me explain this quote. Christine, Marshall, and I were all at the Sweethearts Dance and I recalled how I used to flip Marshall when he was shorter than me. I was pretty sure I could do it again, so I did. Therefore, Christine is actually quoting me in this post.

Day 17: Time

Here we see the process of me opening and eating some Toblerone. Mmmmmmm. Think of it as a mini time lapse, hence the subject: time.

Day 18: Drink

Martinelli's Sparkling Pomegranate and Apple Juice. Apparently this is Burns' second time opening this bottle. Don't ask me how he got that cork back in. His explanation, "I'm really strong."

valentine's stuff and FPADC 11-14

On Sunday I invited the Biebers, Kutarnas, and Marshie over to have a Valentine's Dinner with Burns and me. I made Honey-Crisp Oven-Fried Chicken and mashed potatoes. It turned out real nice. Everyone else brought side dishes and drinks and what not. We had dinner at the Heninger's because they were out of town. It was sooo nice to have so much room!

Alex and Arianne taking a pic of the dinner table.
Another thing that was really awesome about this dinner is that we had a "phone stack". Everyone put their phones in a pile and we weren't allowed to check or answer our phones until dinner was over. If someone did check, they would have to do the dishes. Unfortunately for me, no one checked their phones so I ended up with the dishes haha. At least we were all involved with each other the whole dinner. I like that.

After dinner and much conversation (because of the glorious phone stack) we had our cookie swap! All seven of us brought 24 cookies so we each swapped 3. I made Almond Meringue Cookies which turned out way better than I thought they would! I want to make more some time soon.

Almond Meringue Cookies
Look at all them different kinds of cookies!

This is what I accumulated at the end of the swap:

Marshie really had us fooled when he brought his cookies in a store-bought package. He told Arianne he was going to make Pumpkin-Banana Cookies, but he went out and bought some instead! You can read that story here.

Nitty and Navy made me a V-day card :)

Thanks so much for coming out everyone! It was definitely a great night and a great swap!

So today is the actual Valentine's Day and last night Burns told me to come over to his house at 8:00am the next morning. I went over this morning and he made breakfast for me (I helped a lot but hey, I'm sure not complaining)! Thanks Boonie!!!

Day 11: Makes You Happy

Is it cliche to say that these two light up my life like no others? Oh well, it's the truth. Especially when Kobe looks and Burns like this. It makes me smile every single time.

Day 12: Inside Your Closet

Yes, my clothes are color coded and yes, it makes it way easier to find what I'm looking for. This was just after I purged everything to get ready for the clothing exchange I was a part of last night.

Day 13: Blue

I just so happened to be wearing this necklace on the 13th.

Day 14: Heart

This was in the card that Burns got me for V-day.

Another great Valentine's present is that I don't have school today! This is because I only have one class on Tuesdays and it was canceled. So now I have the whole day to study for my two exams coming up! Speaking of which.....I should probably get going now.

chicken noodle soup - for amber

Dear Amber,

This is how I made that soup:

Chop up and fry until browning and softened:

  • 1 big onion or 2 medium.
  • 3 or 4 carrots
  • 2 or 3 stalks of celery
Add any spices you want like salt, pepper, celery salt, thyme, and cumin.

Heat up:
  • 3 quarts of chicken broth (I used organic chicken broth that had 25% or something less sodium than the other organic chicken broth. I'm kind of an organic freak sometimes).
  • Add vegetables and boil until completely softened
While the vegetables are boiling, make the noodles! You will need:
  • 1 cup of flour
  • 1 egg
  • A pinch of salt
Mix all together (I had to add water to get everything moist) and roll out on flour. Cut into very thin strips. I put the strips on paper towel on a cookie sheet. Let dry. To quicken this step I heated the oven to the lowest possible temperature and baked the noodles until they were mostly dry.

Tear meat off a whole, cooked chicken. When the veggies are cooked, add the chicken, add more spices, and add the noodles. The noodles need to boil for 15 mins.

Enjoy your masterpiece.

Love,
Paige

PS this makes a lot of soup so be prepared to eat it all week!

FPADC - 9&10

 Day 9: Front Door

I almost forgot to take this pic! It was probably 11:00pm when I did take it. I wrote a poem dedicated to my front door:

Oh front door, so mild, so meek,
Open up and hear me speak.
Those who enter through thine gate,
Will smell curry and will awake.

For spices strong seep through the vents,
And much too powerful are the scents.
But front door, you are home to me,
My fate, I accept, to be with thee.

Day 10: Self Portrait

Hey that's me with my new glasses! I really like dem thangs.

AAAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand my last pic for this blog isn't a part of FPADC:

I just wanted to wish everyone a happy V-Day. This is a heart-shaped doughnut. So cute. Burns gave it to me when I went over to his house yesterday. He also made me dinner on Thursday :D

Last night we went to Peter's and then to the Sweethearts dance with Marshie. The dance was super fun and we were there the entire time! Man did I get a good workout. I really wish I didn't have to wear a skirt though....they are extremely limiting.

For my Valentine's Day I don't have any classes! But I have to study for two midterms that I have to take in that same week. Then I get an entire week off! Wooooot! I love reading week.

FPADC 6-7-8

Don't you just love when this happens?

I think it's so cute for some reason.

Day 6: Dinner

Chicken noodle soup and sliced red bell pepper.
I couldn't wait to take that picture because I couldn't wait to eat my supper! I realize that I loooove really hearty soups. I could eat them for every supper I think.

Day 7: Button

Nothing special here. I was going to take a picture of my coat button but never got around to it and time was running thin.

Day 8: Sun

Whoever built this building was NOT thinking about the hazardous reflection of the sun! I feel sorry for people who have to drive by this thing in the morning and evening. It's a pretty cool building though, inside and out.

a short story

The morning was calm with a slight breeze and butterflies in the form of snowflakes were fluttering gently down to the ground to rest. There they waited until the sun's rays would eventually coax them to transform into their liquid state and then evaporate and join their family in rebirth of more crystal snowflakes. The girl had just stepped off the bus and quickly checked her bag to make sure her new, red mittens were safely tucked away. There they were safe and sound, and she was contently on her way to university where she would learn of various important and interesting subjects. She was trailing behind others who had dismounted the bus before her, all on their way to school or work. She thought of her little dog at home, all alone, in his kennel. Before she had left her little apartment, she checked to make sure the stove was off and nothing was on that could catch fire. She could not bear the thought of her little puppy surrounded by flames with no one to help him to safety.

While she was on the trail to class, she thought of her boyfriend who didn't answer his phone when she had called that morning. Perhaps he was still asleep, or better yet, maybe, just maybe, he had actually gotten up early and swam at his school. He always said he would get up early to fight the water's resistant pull, but he had not accomplished that goal yet once that semester. In fact, the girl never believed him when he so valiantly decried his commitment to the next morning, but she always smiled anyways and thought he was the most darling thing. Her thoughts quickly turned to how odd it was how the behind of the girl in front of her swooshed back and forth so violently as she walked. The girl wondered if her own butt rocked back and forth like that while she, herself, walked. She certainly hoped not because it was not appealing to her whatsoever.

The slight breeze was a little chilly, nipping at her ears and the back of her head, so the girl drew her hood and continued on her way. She crossed the road and passed under the daunting trees which groaned under the weight of their own branches. Other thoughts passed nonchalantly through the young woman's mind, nothing sinister, nothing outrageous, when suddenly something hit the top of her hood while walking under the branches. "That must have been a drop of water," she concluded while searching for other explanations. Another explanation did arise, one which was only a flicker of possibility and chance, but she did not dwell on it.

The girl quickly turned into a damsel in distress as she reached her hand up to her hood to check, just in case, if her fears had come true. Her palm brushed something wet, and with her hand held out in front of her she let out a low lamentation in the midst of the sounds of footsteps crushing dry snow. There, on her hand, was a mixture of brown, yellow, and white. The colours of none other than fowl feces.

we felt a little nosie

Saturday was GORGEOUS!!!!!! I quickly cleaned the kitchen and made chicken noodle soup for my roomies because I ruined Bryanne's soup the other day and in the process I scorched the bottom of Megan's pot. I had homemade noodles and let me tell you, they make ALL the difference! Thanks for that idea Arianne! So then I took some soup to Burns and he was much appreciative, then we headed out to Nose Hill. My goodness, February 4th, 2012 was a perfect day. We started climbing the hill and we had to take off our jackets. I kept my jacket off the whole time we were there because there was zero wind and we were completely content. Kobe absolutely loved his freedom and ran around all over the place sniffing and peeing on things.

Kobe loves other dogs. Here is one that came rushing over when he saw us.

Burns likes to squint in the sun. I tried to get him to stop for this picture but I just ended up getting him with his eyes shut.

It's amazing how much you can see of Calgary up on Nose Hill. Burns was even looking at Cochrane through his astronomy binos.

The sky was so beautiful with no clouds and such a great blue which contrasted nicely with my sweater. This next picture was taken with Instagram but it was so great, I didn't put a filter on it.

Here is a picture of Kobes just having a great time.

Afterwards I rushed to the stake center to attend "Emma's Garden Party" put on by the West Stake Relief Society. They gym was PACKED with women. We had Hawaiian Haystacks and there was a great program with lots of talent. The lady who was in charge of food made all of the cupcakes by herself. Aren't they awesome?

These two girls in the front of the stage did an awesome rap about RS called "sisters". It was so good haha.

Rick and Denise were called to serve in the Chinese Branch so she sang with the Chinese ladies for one of the numbers. That's her with the red jacket on the front row. Her singing group "Sisters in Song" also did a number "Don't Sit Under the Apple Tree". It was really cute.

I had a pretty great Saturday.

FPADC - Days 4&5

Day 4: A Stranger

I had wanted to actually ask a random person if I could take there pic, but I got too scared. Instead I got a pic of Burns with strangers in the background haha. I love this pic.

Day 5: 10am

At 10am I was at Burns' house and I had just finished curling my hair. Here I am in the bathroom. I also made that delicious salad of Arianne's that morning. The one with mango, avocado, and tomato. Burns liked it a lot too but the mangoes weren't ripe enough.

FPADC Days 1-3

I'm a part of a February long challenge that Alex posted on her blog. It's called the February Photo a Day Challenge. Arianne has joined in, and a couple others on Instagram. It's fun to see what people come up with. You can join in too if you like! We're only on day 4. Here is the list (I took a picture on my phone so that I could always have the list near):

Day 1: Your View Today

Day 1 was not a very fun day for me as you may be able to tell from the picture. I had a midterm that day and I was going to work out but I had to go home because my roommate forgot her keys. Before I caught the bus home I got a bad headache. When I got off the bus I felt weak and sick to my stomach. Bryanne made chicken noodle soup and she left it up to me to look after it while she was gone for 20 mins...and I burned it! I felt so bad...both physically and emotionally. Boonie came to my rescue and brought me ginger ale and some chips. By the end of the night I was feeling better and my headache was almost gone. The next day I was aaaaalll better :D

I wanted to try to capture the feelings I had that day: stress, sick, sad. It's hard to think of anything else when you're lying in bed about to throw up.

Day 2: Words

This challenge has sure got me thinking all throughout the day! I didn't realize how seriously I would take it haha. I looked out all day for something awesome I could do for "words" but nothing was coming to me. I thought about how important words are to everyone. It's pretty much who we are as people because we wouldn't be able to do all the magnificent things we have done without our means of communication. Just ask someone with aphasia and they will tell you how important words are to them. Words, whether written, signed, gestured, or spoken, are everything, and I wanted to represent that.

Since it was getting late and I didn't have any amazing ideas, I resorted to taking a picture of my keyboard.
With this keyboard I can write all the words in the English language. I think that's pretty awesome.

Day 3: Hands

There are only one person's hands who I love as much as my own, and who's else could they be other than Burns'? Originally I was going to take a picture of us holding hands, but I didn't really like the way my hands looked haha. Then Burns put his hand in a heart shape, so I did the same to complete it. Just in case you can't tell, Burns' hand is on the left and my hand is on the right. He was even repositioning my fingers to make the picture look good.

Hands are pretty incredible things. No other creature in the world has as much dexterity and precise grip as humans do. And you've probably noticed that whenever you get a cut on your hand, you realize how often you hit that part of your hand. It amazes me every time how much I use every inch of my hands when I am injured somewhere on mine.

February Photo Challenge, you sure have got me thinking deep!
